[How to spend a cool summer on Jeju] Seogwipo Natural Recreational Forest

An important note on Jeju’s updated bus system and this blog post

From August 2017, Jeju Island implemented a new city and intercity bus system. It increased the number of buses in service, while simplifying the routes, fees and numbering system.

Consequently, the contents of this previously published blog post may have changed. We therefore would kindly request that you consult this page for new bus maps in English on VisitJeju.net,  and this page on our blog for a chart of the old and new bus route numbers.

If you read Korean, then the province’s official bus system website is a useful and up-to-date resource. We hope you’ll enjoy your travels on Jeju Island!

A walk with friends and family in the forest during the Jeju Island summer is a good way to cool down.

We’ve already introduced the Saryeoni and Bijarim forests and now we’re adding the Seogwipo Natural Recreational Forest to this list. It is a place for a stroll, camping, accommodation, and a swim in the cool waters flowing down from Halla Mountain. It is even possible to take a car into the area most of the way making it one of the more convenient forest paths to visit.

You’ll find this forest on the western slopes of the island via the 1100 meter road that connects Jeju City with the Jungmun Tourism Complex in Seogwipo.

Here many types of trees live together including those from temperate, warm temperate, and cool temperate climates.

Azaleas bloom in spring. In summer the cool creek and forest comes to the fore. In autumn the leaves change with beautiful colors. Then finally in winter the snow arrives. The Seogwipo Natural Recreational Forest offers something different for visitors every season.

The walking route has a wooden deck in parts as well making a stroll easier on the feet.

The eco-system is well-kept making it a good place for school children on field trips. Flowers like the sansuguk grow here for study.

These school children on field trips are also complemented by families enjoying a light picnic under the cool shade of the trees.

In the summer this coolness can go one step further with a paddle in the natural pool. It might be shallow for adults, but for younger ones the depth is good.

So after all of this activity, which includes walking and swimming you can spend a summer night at the forest through camping or simple accommodation. Businesses can hold meetings and team building events with the accompanying seminar room. Be sure to make a reservation via http://huyang.seogwipo.go.kr/ (no English service at the moment).
