An important note on Jeju’s updated bus system and this blog post
From August 2017, Jeju Island implemented a new city and intercity bus system. It increased the number of buses in service, while simplifying the routes, fees and numbering system.
Consequently, the contents of this previously published blog post may have changed. We therefore would kindly request that you consult this page for new bus maps in English on VisitJeju.net, and this page on our blog for a chart of the old and new bus route numbers.
If you read Korean, then the province’s official bus system website is a useful and up-to-date resource. We hope you’ll enjoy your travels on Jeju Island!
Cindy asked us on our CHIT CHAT page about directions to Monsant Cafe and Bomnal Cafe. We’re happy to report back!
Our last trip to Monsant Cafe was by car in the winter. This time I took the bus and used Google Maps as a navigation tool. Hopefully with this post, you won’t need a navigation app at all. ^_^ But the address in Korean is 제주특별자치도 제주시 애월읍 애월리 2546.
Taking the public bus to Monsant Cafe and Bomnal Cafe is really budget friendly! It only costs 1,300won when you use your T-money card to transfer.
First, you should go to Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal to catch bus #702.
Take this bus for about 45-50 minutes and get off at Handamdong (한담동) bus stop. It is a bit past Aewol elementary school.
Once you get off at the bus stop, walk straight ahead for a few minutes. You will then take a right turn into Aewol-ro 1 gil. You will see a pasta restaurant on your right and a Cafe Couple on your left. This means you’re on the right track!
Keep going straight as if you’re heading towards the ocean, which you kind of are since the cafes are by the sea. At the end of this road, turn right.
You will soon see a sign that shows two paths – one to Bomnal Cafe, and one to Monsant Cafe.
Walking straight (with the waters on your left side), you will soon see Bomnal Cafe. This was also the filming site for Korean drama Warm and Cozy.
You would need to buy a drink before being able to go inside the cafe.
The cafe actually leads to an outdoor area where you can see the ocean and also Monsant Cafe nearby.
If you would like to head to Monsant Cafe, then turn right at the sign above and keep walking. You will see construction and this Doldol pork cutlet restaurant.
Keep walking past the restaurant and more construction sites. You can see pretty houses being built along the way.
At the end of this path you will see the famed Monsant Cafe ,where GDragon of Big Bang is rumored to be the owner. There have also been many sightings of him visiting this cafe with other celebrities.
In the winter the glass windows were closed, but now that spring is here, all the glass windows were opened. Guests can enjoy the fresh air and ocean view even if they eat inside the cafe.
Looking in from the outside, I was really impressed with the architecture of Monsant Cafe. What a unique place!
On our last post of Monsant Cafe, we shared about the menu and the Shakerato drink. This time, we’ll share about their sandwiches. When I went there today (Tuesday) at lunchtime, they only had sandwiches even if the menu offered other food. However, the sandwich was quite delicious! You get two options: eggplant and brie cheese or chicken parmesan. I went for the eggplant and brie!
The price was quite expensive at 13,000won for the set. But it came with fries and silver cutlery. The sandwich was warm and delicious. The best part was being able to enjoy the nice ocean view while eating it.
If you’re craving something sweet, Monsant Cafe has a variety of dessert, including carrot cake.
You can also buy some hallabong marmelade to take home.
Besides admiring the cafe, you can also see the ocean.
The water was so blue! I especially enjoyed watching the waves crash against the rocks.
You can also walk along this path (in front of Monsant Cafe) to reach Bomnal Cafe.
Turning left at the ocean front will take you to Bomnal Cafe.
When you are ready to take the bus back, retrace your steps back to the bus stop. But you need to cross the street to take the intercity bus #702 back into the city.
I hope you enjoy this post about how to get to Monsant Cafe and Bomnal Cafe by bus! If you have any questions about Jeju or missions for us to do, please write on our CHIT CHAT page. We welcome all creative or weird missions!
