[Webzine 2] Olle Trail 1-1, Udo

The entire area of Jeju Island was designated as UNESCO Global Geopark in 2010 for its unique volcanic topography and the beautiful landscape of the island. The geo-trails of Jeju are walking trails that were created using the Global Geoparks brand and based on the unique topographical resources, history, culture, and stories of each village. Starting from the development of Sanbangsan Mountain and Yongmeori Coast Geo-trail in April 2014, currently, a total of four geo-trails have been developed including Gimnyeong & Woljeong Geo-trail in Manjanggul Cave area, Seongsan & Ojo Geo-trail in Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak area, and Suwolbong Peak Geo-trail that connects Suwolbong Peak, Dangsanbong, and the Chagwido area.

Jeju Olle Trails Course 1-1

‘Olle’ in Jeju dialect means ‘a narrow alley’. Jeju Olle trails are the walking courses that have been selected and developed for its beautiful scenic views and flat pathways. Currently, there are a total of 26 courses including the 21 official courses and 5 unofficial courses (island & mountain pathways). If you start walking from course 1, you can see and feel all the beauty that Jeju cherishes.

Udo is the shape of a lying cow. It is the largest island out of the 62 islands of Jeju. The island is like the miniature of Jeju Island and offers so much to see. Many tourists visit this island throughout the year to see the emerald green water and enjoy the beautiful walking path that leads to Udobong peak. The trail beside Udo Reservoir is covered with poppies and crimson clovers from early spring to early summer creating an incredible landscape. A lighthouse that looks like a castle in a foreign land stands on the top of the highest peak of Udo, Udobong, and you can appreciate the scenic view of Udo from the peak which will take your breath away.
