It’s that time of the year again! This amazing annual festival celebrates Jeju’s culture, traditions, and of course, its beauty. This year it begins on Wednesday, Sept. 20 and runs through Sunday the 24th in Tapdong, right here in Jeju City.
Hundreds of participants — musicians, artists, shamans and scholars — will all bring Tamna culture to life. The five-day event also attracts thousands of visitors from the mainland.
And it’s not just a cultural festival, it’s a youth festival, an art festival, a cultural exchange festival, and more! More info about the festival program is on their English site: http://www.tamnafestival.kr/eng/program2.sky
Did you know?
Tamna was the ancient name of the island kingdom that became Jeju. It existed from around the Three Kingdoms to the Unified Silla (the 3rd to the early 10th century). During that time, the development of local culture, art, maritime trade, and social order, made great strides. In fact, much of what we think of today as Jeju culture actually evolved during that time!
