‘2020 World Heritage Festival’ begins today

To celebrate UNESCO World Heritage sites around Korea and Jeju Province, a 17-day-long event kicks off Sept. 4 at sites around the island.

From today, walking tours of Geomunoreum Lava Tube System, Hallasan Mountain, Manjanggul Cave and Seongsan Sunrise Peak are some of the Jeju sites that are being highlighted.

On the mainland, Confucian Academies, Seokguram Grotto, and Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori (mask dance drama performance) were recognized in previous events.

Though COVID-19 precautions (like smaller groups than normal) and an incoming typhoon (No. 10, Haishen) are significant concerns, organizers and participants are making the most of the situation.

– While you may not be able to participate, please feel free to consult Visitjeju.net regarding Jeju’s World Natural Heritage Sites.

– And if you’re curious about this special event, the program (in Korean) is posted on the 2020 World Heritage Festival website and on their social media channel.
