Jeju’s origin story on display at Samsaseok Rock in Jeju City

Samsaseok Rock is closely associated with Jeju Island’s origin story. According to the legend, the mythical founders of the Tamna Kingdom called Goh, Yang, and Bu, appeared from the earth at Samseonghyeol. When they later chose three Byeokrangguk princesses, they each shot arrows to decide where to live. Samsaseok is a stone container carved in 1735 (rebuilt in 1930) with rocks that those arrows were said to have hit. It is designated Jeju Monument No. 4

Please note: During the COVID-19 pandemic, traveling to Jeju is problematic. In the meantime, we are highlighting some of the island’s attractions. We sincerely hope you will visit Jeju once it is safe to do so.
