Jeju’s not a desert island, nor is it deserted. But it’s often relatively devoid of people, especially during the off-season. This video was taken at Geumneung Beach, where there is a large public campground (with showers and public washrooms). In summer it’s packed, but before then it’s possible to find yourself without immediate neighbors, much like the one captured here. [Visit Jeju Island] Rural scenes and seasonal surprises Even with a population of about 600,000, Jeju Island’s urban areas are not that concentrated. It’s a pleasure to live near working farms, simply because it keeps us mindful of the seasons and how life flourishes here in cycles. My bet is that not too many city dwellers can identify this particular crop (the photo was taken this morning). Any guesses? This restaurant has some great stand-alone meals in addition to its beer and alcohol side dishes. I haven’t been yet, but people I trust say it’s great.
